Weekly Eats Saturday // Volume 2

October 31, 2014

Hi hi hi. Did you see how we’re doing weekly linkups & comment love on meal plans? Volume 1 for your perusal. I cannot tell you how awesome it was to read all your posts, comments, and take your advice and food ideas to heart. AA said in total shock “YOU MADE A MEAL PLAN???!?” Yes, I responded. Because of my friends in my computer!!!!! If you’re new, it’s very simple. Bloggers write a post with their meal plan (replete with pics, puuuleeeaze because this mama eats with her eyes). Normal people share via comment what they’re going to feed their brood or own gullet. You’re holding me accountable for making a meal plan and giving me inspiration. I cannot thank you enough!! Add your comments & links! Open all week! — Sunday: Dutch Pancakes & Pork Meatballs. I had a wonderful girls’ weekend a while back with my mommy dear friends. We all love food. They are all amazing foodies. One gave me this meatball recipe. TO DIE FOR! Do not overcook it like I did the first time I tried it. Mary, they were nothing like yours. Hoping to make it better this go ’round. Your recipe is AMAZING! Dutch pancake recipe here. Meatballs . . . 1 egg 1/2 cup finely chopped cooking apples 2 or 3 teaspoons snipped fresh sage 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper 3/4 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed 1 pound ground pork -Mix and form into 1 inch meatballs. -Bake at…

7 Quick Takes volume ?

October 16, 2014

— 1 — It’s been a wild week with some health problems for me (in the never ending saga of still healing from my 10 pound baby) and my etsy shop getting really busy with a bunch of new offerings. And so many great articles around the net! And the Wellness Family Summit that was a free online conference all about health. Wild. I tell you. Wild week. — 2 — Me: let’s just say the hits keep coming with another round of infections and a new problem that hopefully won’t require surgery. Because no one wants to know about my lower regions, we’ll keep it to that. If I’ve not emailed you back or been slow on the responses, it’s not you. It’s me. Thank goodness for dear friends who come over for a playdate, bring the lunch, bring a dinner, clean up, and hold my baby so I can just lay there and yak yak yak at them while the kids play happily in the driveway. How blessed? So blessed. — 3 — etsy, not regretsy! Should I even tell you about regretsy? Just google it. It’s a hilarious site about things that people regretted buying on etsy. Let’s just hope none of mine ever end up there. So new offerings–or should I tell you about what’s been hot lately? I’ve mailed so many little boxes of love out! New offerings. We’ll stick to simple. British wool scarves! Simple double wrap scarf that will take the place of your…

7QTs Horses, Babies, Skirts, No Sugar Circus

October 2, 2014

— 1 — It’s been quite a week. I’m an associate board member for the volunteer board that runs the Twin Cities Birth & Baby Expo–and let me tell you I cannot wait for it to happen this Saturday. As in, tomorrow. Although I’m a mere underling (like an understudy but fewer speaking lines), being able to help put on this thousands and thousands of person event for families to come (for free!) and attend over 40 workshops, meet over 100 exhibitors, all baby & birthing related? AND get a gift bag with swag?? And eat from awesome local food trucks? Yup. I love it. My mom is kind enough to run my craft table for Whole Parenting Goods while BabyLoves and I trot around helping put out (or start?) fires. I haven’t slept very much due to trying to quickly make beautiful things for beautiful people, and do my normal crazy life, and do my expo work. Mama may have been crabby lately. Sorry, kids. Remember, though, even that may not define me? *big grin?* — 2 — My favorite horse show in the whole wide world is this week/weekend at the Minnesota State Fair grounds–the Harvest Show. It was started in the 70’s by my late beloved trainer, Hans Senn, and others. It brings world class talent to the Twin Cities of horses & horse people. I show jumped for years and years and trained countless hours with my beloved four footed friends. Shocker: had to give it…

Bocce Ball in 7 Quick Takes

September 25, 2014

— 1 — It’s been too long, Jen & crew! I’m back. Quick taking it. In seven. Really it’s all about the bocce ball. So go here to Bridget talking about taming the toddler instead. Or here to Christy and see what she’s been reading. Britt made pecan pie muffins. I just died from joy. Speaking of death by food, did you know Laurel had a food blog??? //// Back to bocce ball game from h-e-double hockey  sticks. My dad plays it every late afternoon with the old geezers in the neighborhood. But when the owner of the set leaves town, he is the keeper. Enter: my children who watch the guys play now get to play. It’s intense. She wants to measure. He wants to measure. He wants both pagnigno (spelling whatever) balls. Imagine their reactions. Imagine the croc tears.   — 2 — — 3 — More fighting. I wish I could say his pained expression is fake. It’s real. So much more where that came from. — 4 — She takes off. With the yellow ball. Her fav. Her coveted. Her precious. Insert Gollum here. — 5 — And he wins. He beat himself. Record, really. Those lovely blueberry bushes? Didn’t produce a da*n blueberry this year. We need to recheck our acidity in the soil. Did that sound like I know what I’m talking about? Because I don’t. But overhead AA telling my dad that. — 6 — She was thoroughly unimpressed. — 7 — It…

7Qts on Getting Done What Needs to Get Done

August 7, 2014

Joining Jen & her crew for the 7 Quick Takes over at Conversion Diary. — 1 — I’m just getting done what needs to get done. That’s my dad’s favorite phrase. That and, “pull my finger.” And maybe a few other dadisms we have chronicled through the years. He’s absolutely the funniest person in the world, hand’s down. {Sorry, Jim Gaffigan–I did just read your book and LOVED it, but my dad is funnier.} My dad’s a doer. He comes from a family of doers. A cousin’s fiancé jokingly refers to my aunt and my dad and all their siblings as “human doings” instead of human beings. My dad’s faithful thought is, I just get done what needs to get done. He never complains about doing work in the yard around our house, indeed he cannot be pulled away from it with threats and screams. He never complains after a really long day at the hospital, followed by someone waking him up in the middle of the night asking about their medication, preceded by being on-call and popping by the hospital after mass but before vespers on a Sunday. The man never complains. He just does things, with joy or with disgruntlement–who knows?–and is my example on getting done what needs to get done. — 2 — Case in point, I’m still on a high from a weekend with awesome ladies, inspirational thoughts, sleep {who knew what that was?}, food prepared by someone else AND cleaned up by them, and a little peace…
