Week Eats v. 4 // link up & comment in with your meal plan ideas
Dear fellow people who eat,
Yes! We are at week four of this really awesome meal sharing business. I cannot tell you how it has helped me plan in advance, and in arrears, with your delicious advice!
For your perusal: the first week when I had lots of pictures.
The second week when you had lots of ideas.
The third week when I was out of steam and you guys saved the bacon // dinner.
So I’ve got big plans again as last week was such a burn out.
Monday: Mary’s suggestion from last week:
Creamy Tomato Soup with basil. Going to de-frost our stock from scratch for it. Grilled cheese with it? Yes, please. Vermont Cabot Cheddar from Costco. You know it.

Tuesday: Cecilia’s lentils from last week:
Lentils in vino! She suggested serving with sautéed greens. No probs. Got a ton from the garden in the freezer!

Wednesday: Domestic Apologist’s Baked Chicken
Serving this bad boy Alice Waters’ ratatouille. Just rubbing down a roaster chicken with butter, olive oil, stuff slices of garlic under the skin, and stuffing it with whatever fresh herbs I can muster up.
Photo from the rata recipe:
Thursday: Chewy Morsels’ Zuppa Contadina
Zuppa Contadina with pork sausage and a loaf of crusty Italian bread for dipping. Taking these pages from Laurel!!
Friday: Maggie’s White Bean Pizza from the other week
::white bean pizzas (drain a can of white beans, add minced garlic; put in food processer till paste-like; put it on pita/tortilla/pizza crust, top with sun-dried tomato, spinach, oregano, light cheese
Maggie, YES!

What you got, people?? Comment or link with food ideas. You’re keeping my family happy over here 🙂
Oh man. It’s my turn to not be prepared for next week. It’s probably going to involve a lot of winter squash (CSA loot), greens (garden and CSA), lentils, beans, and grains. Like most weeks in winter, really.
We just bought half a hog from our CSA farmer, though, so before we start rationing pork for the winter we’re going to have Marcella Hazan’s pork loin in milk tomorrow (recipe: http://www.dinneralovestory.com/marcellas-braised-pork/ ) The pictures look gross, but it’s amazing. I serve it with roasted potatoes and some sort of cabbage-y vegetable.
Enjoy the lentils! We’ll probably have those again sometime this week, as well as our staple grilled cheese with tomato or pumpkin soup.
That ratatouille looks so good. I might put that on the list for next week.
Celia,
That reminds me that I have frozen tomato soup in our freezer from our summer tomatoes. Grilled cheese and tomato soup are one of my husband’s favorites! Need to add that to the menu soon! 🙂
She’s inspiring us all!
Did you just say pork loin & milk? Dying in hog heaven over here.
Here is the spaghetti sauce recipe I used yesterday! http://dontwastethecrumbs.com/2012/11/yummy-recipe-hearty-spaghetti-sauce/
OH AMY! You just made my next week’s calendar!!
That zuppa will not disappoint! 🙂
Those lentils look fantastic. Definitely adding them to the winter dinner repertoire.
CAnnot wait for both.
Love this! It’s clean-out-the-freezer week. Here’s what’s cooking:
Friday – we had guac and chips (recall I do groceries after work on Fri so it’s always something super easy)
Saturday – chicken breast with champagne cream risotto, asparagus with pancetta (thanks, Rachael Ray!)
Sunday – celebrating Leo’s birthday! Homemade deep dish pizza, salad, bread, ice cream cake
Monday – leftover pizza
Tuesday – frozen baked potato soup (leftover)
Wednesday – frozen pastitsio (leftover). What? Never had it? Look up Ina Garten’s recipe. You’ll wonder where it’s been all your life.
Thursday – flank steak, with mexican sides (beans, cilantro, avocado, etc.)
I’m so, so excited about Leo’s celebration – I haven’t yet made a homemade deep dish. But the choc cake is adapted from smitten kitchen (devil dog cake) and is absolutely THE BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE YOU WILL EVER HAVE.
Maggie, as ever, you’re saving the day over here. AND I WANT THAT CAKE NOW!!!! Tell us about your deep dish crust!?
How kind of you to make this week’s menu for your family based off of our suggestions. What a community you’re making for us, Nell! Hope the creamy tomato turned out well. First time I made it, two red onions seemed like overkill but it all came together.
I’m so honored you’re here, Mary!!
I know I’m late to the game, but I made this last night and it was so good! Even my 20mo old liked it. I didn’t use the jalapeño seeds so it was a bit less spicy than what is mentioned here.
Delish!!
