drink it like it’s hot

November 6, 2014

If you know me, and you do, oh, yes, you do, you know I love hot beverages. I’m a poser. This is a rambling post. Brace yourselves. Teething has rendered me virtually brainless. Hop to Olivia’s blog for the last moments of giving away a Bandit Bib. Because: teething. I’m going to point you to my top teething solutions. Hop here. The advantage of a blog spanning multiple teething children. Right-o. But on to me. I love hot chocolate. Above all else. I will drink it to death, if on a dessert island. I could have multiple a day til my kidneys failed me. I could never ever go full non-dairy and non-chocolate because this is my life blood. When I was a little girl I would order chocolate milk at any given opportunity at a restaurant–which wasn’t that often. I just love love love chocolate in liquid form. BUT I also have grown begrudgingly fond of my sister’s tea. If you recall, out of us five kids, only one is really doing interesting things, Bridget. Okay, but Molly is a close second. Bridget {wave wave wave} is remarkable. And if you ask my mom what she does for a living, she will give you a quizzical look and pause, long, before responding something with computers . . . ? Actually, the sister between them is the most giving and selfless, and my brother is serving our country, so it really just leaves me doing the boring stuff. Like talking about tea and cocoa.…

Meal Planning is My DOWNFALL {i suck at it} {{help me}}

October 21, 2014

You’d think I’ve got it down. Meal planning. Simple enough, right? You write down what you’re going to eat. Then you write down your shopping list. Then you buy the ingredients and make the dammm food. Simple but oh-so-elusive. I’ve tried for years to be consistent about it. Often in a frantic panic Sunday nights (that, and staring down a huge pile of white dress shirts that firmly require ironing out their set wrinkles for AA’s work). I’ll scream to my husband I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE GOING TO EAT THIS WEEK??!!! Of course, I could pay for a meal plan to have all this sent to me. I tried that. Of course, I could just defrost some meat every night so there was something to eat the next day. I tried that. Of course, I could order a lot of takeout + organic frozen pizza. Yup. Guess who’s done that. But what I’d like to do is a meal planning link up. Saturdays. If you don’t have a blog, no problem. Just comment with your meal plan for the week with either the link to the recipe, or if you are a chef (Mary, Cynthia, Laura, I’m looking at you girls) maybe share your secret recipe with us. If you have a blog, link your post up. It will be open the whole week long. Saturday is a family day, and some people don’t waste time on the internet that day {ahem can’t pretend I don’t}. So anytime during…

you ate velveeta and spam? how & why we changed our eating habits

September 15, 2014

I posted on Facebook today that a big part of why I’m doing this healthy living bundle sale is because I want to empower you. “Empower.” Such an annoying buzz word. Along with “genuine” and “authentic” and “relatable.” I was texting about the way these words are like scraping a fork on a plate for both of us. Ha! Anyway. Back to business. It’s the last few hours for this healthy living bundle I’ve been talking about. The link to buy is here. Or this fancy button: Empower. I sobbed the other day in the car after leaving the coop. (natural foods coop.) I had bought organic crackers again!!! I hadn’t yet made my own!!!! Didn’t I pin those recipes? Couldn’t I save my family the money and make the most wholesome delicious crackers in the world? What kind of natural mother was I??? WAAAAAAAAAA —–reality check! I’m a great mom. And making my own crackers isn’t going to change that. After laughing about this with my sisters and a few girlfriends, I could exhale. I don’t have to do everything from scratch. I don’t have to make crackers. Whew.———— I grew up with a loving mother and father who both worked hard to provide food, shelter in a gorgeous house, plenty of hand-me down clothing, first rate education, amazing trips around the world, and siblings, built in frenemies. But the food. My mother is a baker, not a cook, and it was the 80’s. Food was kinda like science…
