Farmgirl Fare Whole Wheat Chocolate Chippers
Another great recipe from Farmer Susan: Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies. (We also use her pizza dough recipe, as seen here.) My family gobbled them up. My mother has an excellent recipe for Chocolate Chip cookies, but even she enjoyed the added dimension of healthfulness in the whole wheat flour! The middle is soft and delicious while the edges are firmer and crisp. A delightful recipe you should try next time you’re in the cookie baking mood.

2) Tips.
She recommends using two things that were crucial to success: a 1/4 scoop to get those big cookies out on the sheet, and parchment paper lining the cookie sheet for ease of removal. I’ve read the latter a million times but just never followed through with it. The parchment paper works! And goes into the compost after.
Also, let the eggs and butter sit at room temps for a while. The butter should be softened but not melted. If you grab frozen butter from the freezer and melt it, the cookies will not have the right consistency. That’s one of my mom’s tricks. The eggs also blend better when not sweating & chilled having just been removed from the fridge.
Really do grate your own nutmeg. It’s something we’ve stuck with in our family since we started having Dutch Pancakes as a Sunday tradition. (Recipe to follow!) Freshly grated nutmeg takes 30 seconds and really makes a difference in the flavor.

Delicious! Thanks, Farmer Susan, as my husband loved these for Father’s Day!
Please get on the plane now and bring me some of these. I’m too hot to bake anything but I want to eat at least a dozen. I’ve got the cold milk waiting.
In a heartbeat! I’ll put them in a tupperware & we’re en route 🙂
