Seven Things You Might Want to Hear About

January 29, 2015

1. Web reads. Did you read Anna’s article over at In Honor of Design about Motherhood & the School of Virtue? It’s breathtaking. Or a different Anna’s take on her first child & the attachment parenting approach? Honest and depthful. Or what Anne says about cost-per-wear on clothing purchases. I’m in the cost-per-wear camp. Solid. SweetPea agrees. 2. Babies My sister-in-law and brother welcomed their second boy this week. Our hearts all doubled in size. He is everything perfect about a baby. The kids are obsessed with pictures of him and keep asking all kinds of questions like what size are his diapers and will we be allowed to hold him?? We’re planning an East Coast trip to visit Molly & go to the baptism but I am so lucky I get to go for a week visit before then. BabyLoves & me = travel buddies again and we get to go and play with the boys. Can. Not. Wait. Have you watched this short documentary about a local midwife group at HCMC? My gal Emily produced it, so of course it’s fabulous. Remember her doula movie we were in? Watch and tear up over how these practitioners celebrate normal physiological birth and honor their patients. I went to the screening with BabyLoves the other day and was blown away. Weepy me et al. 3. Upcoming posts I had so much fun being interviewed by Kristin over at This Inspired Life. Keep tuned for its air date in the coming weeks! While we were chatting, I was bouncing the baby who in his infinite babyhood, had a massive poop…

7 Quick Takes {This Ain’t the Lyceum’s Hosting!!!}

November 14, 2014

Hi guys and gals. Did you hear Kelly is SPEAKING at Edel15? She’s a super awesome lady and oh my gosh I can’t tell you how funny she is. You can tell for yourself as she’s hosting Jen Fulwiler’s 7 Quick Takes–the weekly linkup about 7 quick things in your life for the week. Jen’s busy blowing up the airways interviewing Jim Gaffigan’s wife, Jeanie. Who’s also hilarious. 1. I’m Not Funny I am not hilarious. At all. In fact, when my brother was visiting the last weekend, I kept thinking, If only I had something really funny to say. I love him so much and wanted to be as witty as my older sister Molly who wasn’t here. Instead my baby burped up in my open praising mouth while I held him overhead. So there you have it. 2. Blessed is She I’m editing and writing for this daily devotional. If you’re a woman, into scripture, and maybe even Catholic (though I think my non-Catholic friends who like the Bible would enjoy this, too), I hope you’ve subscribed (free, duh) to Blessed is She to get an email everyday. Really excitingly, Jenna, the brains behind it all, has created this journal for Advent, the four weeks leading up to Christmas. All proceeds of sales go to fund our beautiful site and the printing of the journals. You gotta get one.   3. Working from Home. Olivia wrote a really great article about how she’s balancing work/life balance as a work at home…

7 Quick Takes volume ?

October 16, 2014

— 1 — It’s been a wild week with some health problems for me (in the never ending saga of still healing from my 10 pound baby) and my etsy shop getting really busy with a bunch of new offerings. And so many great articles around the net! And the Wellness Family Summit that was a free online conference all about health. Wild. I tell you. Wild week. — 2 — Me: let’s just say the hits keep coming with another round of infections and a new problem that hopefully won’t require surgery. Because no one wants to know about my lower regions, we’ll keep it to that. If I’ve not emailed you back or been slow on the responses, it’s not you. It’s me. Thank goodness for dear friends who come over for a playdate, bring the lunch, bring a dinner, clean up, and hold my baby so I can just lay there and yak yak yak at them while the kids play happily in the driveway. How blessed? So blessed. — 3 — etsy, not regretsy! Should I even tell you about regretsy? Just google it. It’s a hilarious site about things that people regretted buying on etsy. Let’s just hope none of mine ever end up there. So new offerings–or should I tell you about what’s been hot lately? I’ve mailed so many little boxes of love out! New offerings. We’ll stick to simple. British wool scarves! Simple double wrap scarf that will take the place of your…

7Qts on Getting Done What Needs to Get Done

August 7, 2014

Joining Jen & her crew for the 7 Quick Takes over at Conversion Diary. — 1 — I’m just getting done what needs to get done. That’s my dad’s favorite phrase. That and, “pull my finger.” And maybe a few other dadisms we have chronicled through the years. He’s absolutely the funniest person in the world, hand’s down. {Sorry, Jim Gaffigan–I did just read your book and LOVED it, but my dad is funnier.} My dad’s a doer. He comes from a family of doers. A cousin’s fiancé jokingly refers to my aunt and my dad and all their siblings as “human doings” instead of human beings. My dad’s faithful thought is, I just get done what needs to get done. He never complains about doing work in the yard around our house, indeed he cannot be pulled away from it with threats and screams. He never complains after a really long day at the hospital, followed by someone waking him up in the middle of the night asking about their medication, preceded by being on-call and popping by the hospital after mass but before vespers on a Sunday. The man never complains. He just does things, with joy or with disgruntlement–who knows?–and is my example on getting done what needs to get done. — 2 — Case in point, I’m still on a high from a weekend with awesome ladies, inspirational thoughts, sleep {who knew what that was?}, food prepared by someone else AND cleaned up by them, and a little peace…
